Rome (AsiaNews) - On 10 April this year marks the 150th anniversary of the PIME in Hong Kong. The first missionaries of the "Lombard Seminary for Foreign Missions" set foot on this piece of land in 1858. At first they worked for the few local Catholics or Macao and the Irish soldiers of the British army settled in the colony. But now some have begun to evangelize the Chinese villages in Kowloon, the mainland, and Sai Kung, to begin a story that led to the maturity of the diocese of Hong Kong, which still stands today in announcing the commitment, in charity, education, the fight for justice and democracy.
Our community and the Church of the PIME in Hong Kong will celebrate the event with two events on 10 and 11 April.
On 10 April the PIME House Hong Kong will discover a "memorial stone" in memory of the 205 missionaries who came in a century and a half in the territory. Sara 'also presented the historical book written and edited by Father Gianni Criveller, PIME missionary theologian in Hong Kong. The next day, a Mass will be celebrated in the cathedral, presided over by Card. Joseph Zen, bishop of Hong Kong. At 20, at Caritas Hall there will be a panel discussion. P. Gianni Giampietro and Sr Beatrice Leung held a talk on "Evangelism and Church found the local" p. Dino Doimo e p. John B. Kwan parleranno della “Evangelizzazione attraverso il servizio pastorale”; p. Renzo Milanese e il dott. Anthony Lam (Holy Spirit Study Centre) su “Evangelizzare attraverso l’educazione e l’azione sociale”. Le considerazioni finali saranno tratte dal card. Zen.
